If you’re reading this anywhere before and after the year 2023, you should be familiar with the extent of cat memes flying around the internet. Memes play a big part of the internet, and cat memes are the pinnacle of them. In the 2000’s posting cat pictures on the internet started out as a joke in the early days of social media, now to a point where they are literally worshipped in the form of memes. Some articles even have a crazy theory where they review proof of cat memes dating back to the victorian era. A 2015 survey proved that 15% of the internet unstructured content like images, videos and audio are of cats. Given that we’ve seen so many memes in the past decade that surface suddenly and then die eventually. But the cat memes just keep on getting better with every meme

Why wont they subside?

The irony pointed hear is cat memes have a linger life span than a cat itself. In an example of memes that outlived its source, the grumpy cat which became famous in 2019, sadly passed away at the age of 7. Many subject to the reason why these memes never die is due to their objective adorableness and a sense of awe felt by the user while looking at the memes and some even suggest cat videos they provide comfort and ease. In a book written by Maria Bustillos called “ Cats is Art Spelled Wrong”, she mentions “ Cat videos are the crystallisation of all that human beings love about cats”.

To this day cats continue to dominate the world of internet. There might be a million reasons why these memes still work for the internet, maybe its their way of asserting dominance over dogs. But one thing I can surely say is, In any case, one cannot simply escape the wrath of cat memes.
